A laboratory school is a school affiliated to a university department or a teacher training structure.

Three complementary activities are associated with it: teaching, training and research. Because of this structure, an organic link is naturally drawn between education and research, which allows to “Develop and test new approaches, by modeling the best practices” ( Cucchiara, 2010 ).

What is a Lab School?

The simultaneous teaching of disciplines in two languages is the model chosen by the school. It is based on co-teaching in two languages and on the presence in the class of children whose language levels of French and English vary from beginner to native.

Bilingualism by mutual immersion

The Lab School Paris is an innovative, bilingual, united, secular and eco-responsible school. It supports children in acquiring knowledge, skills and culture from the Ministry of Education’s curriculum, while paying particular attention to the development of socio-emotional skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, empathy , etc.). It aims at transforming pupils into responsible, enlightened, autonomous, supportive and blooming citizens.

The best

is to try!

The pedagogy of the Lab School Paris relies on a hybrid approach, that is to say it is a synthesis inspired by contributions from different approaches. On the one hand, it draws on the contribution of pioneers of educational innovation, such as Maria Montessori , Célestin Freinet , John Dewey , Alexander Neill or Rudolf Steiner. On the other hand, it uses the current research in educational sciences and in other fields such as psychology, sociology, neuroscience, philosophy or anthropology. In collaboration with the pedagogical council and the researchers of the Lab School Network. The educational team takes into account studies which scientifically evaluate teaching practices -both from the point of view of academic success and well-being at school- and put them into work with children.

The teaching team works as a duo of French-English teachers. The supervision rate is one teacher for a maximum of 15 children.

School routines:

The Lab School Paris follows the academic calendar of the Parisian school district. Classes are held all day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, as well as Wednesday morning. Only middle school students have lessons on Friday afternoon; lessons for elementary school students end at 11:30 a.m. A daycare is offered to all elementary students, as is a study time for middle schoolers.

We welcome children from years 2 to 9 , divided into three different classes, by “cycles” (2, 3 and 4). There are generally around ten students per level, and therefore around thirty per cycle.

The school is located at 46-48 rue de Montreuil, 75011 Paris.

Pre-registrations for 2020-2021 for classes from years 2 to 9 are open.

The pre-registration process is in three stages:

1- Coming to an information meeting to get informed. Find out about the next information meetings here.

2- Fill out the form via Scholana: it allows us to know your child and your motivations better. A member of our team will contact you for a first telephone appointment shortly after.

3- If, at the end of this exchange, you wish to engage in the second part of the registration procedure, you can do so on Helloasso. The application fee is € 50 per child. It covers membership of our association, an appointment with a member of the team and a half-day trial (in cycle 2) or a day of test (in cycles 3 and 4). This amount is deductible from the registration fees once the process is finalized.

We welcome first and foremost the students who seem to be able to benefit the most from our pedagogy. The adequacy between the family's educational project and the one of the Lab School is also taken into consideration. We want, as far as possible, to achieve a balance between bilingual students and those of French and English mother tongue, and between girls and boys. For students from cycle 3 onwards (CM1, CM2 and middle school levels), a minimum of intermediate level is required in English - as part of the teaching takes place in this language. We also want to welcome students from different socio-economic backgrounds, as well as 10 to 20% of students with special educational needs (to be defined in advance with families and, if necessary, the MDPH).

These prices do not include:

  • registration fees: € 600, payable upon first registration, € 200 in the event of re-registration. These fees are not refundable in case of withdrawal (on request, the registration fees can be paid in several installments).
  • school supplies: at most 90 € for the school year.

In order to welcome children and families from all backgrounds to the Lab School Paris, we have set up a scholarship system.

The maximum tuition fee is € 1,100 per month over 10 months (excluding solidarity contributions and middle school extra).

Depending on their income, families can apply for grants - partial or total -. They are awarded after examination of applications by a committee made up of members of the steering committee and the educational council. The commission takes into account both parental income, and the situation of families (number of children, additional income, etc.).

The number of children who can be enrolled in each rate bracket is limited and fixed in advance, so as to preserve the financial balance of the establishment. It depends on the subsidies and sources of income that the school manages to generate in addition to the tuition fees paid by parents.

Payment is made at the start of the quarter, over 10 months (September to June of the current school year). A solidarity contribution of € 25 per child per month is added to the school fees: it is paid by all and intended to reduce the cost of schooling or certain services for the families who need it most, or to finance other projects (outings, school trips, etc.).
